Electric Corner Sofa Beds: Are They Worth It?

Electric Corner Sofa Beds: Are They Worth It?

An electric corner sofa bed lets you stretch out at the touch of a button, but is it the right choice for your living room? This guide explains how they work, what to check before you buy and how the electric corner sofa beds in our range compare, so you can decide whether the extra comfort is worth it for your home.

If you have only ever owned a standard corner sofa, the idea of a powered seat may sound like a luxury. In practice, it is simply a smoother way to change the shape of the sofa, so the same piece of furniture works for sitting upright, lounging with your feet up and, on some models, sleeping.

What is an electric corner sofa bed?

A traditional sofa bed is opened by hand. You pull out a frame or fold down a seat, and the sofa changes shape. An electric corner sofa bed does a similar job, but an electric mechanism extends the seat for you. Press the control and the seat slides forward, giving you a deeper surface to lounge on or, depending on the model, a larger area to sleep on.

Because there is no heavy pulling or lifting, an electric mechanism can suit anyone who finds a manual sofa bed awkward to open. It also makes it more likely that you will actually use the extra space every evening, rather than saving it for when guests stay.

The electric corner sofa beds in our range

We currently have three electric corner sofa bed collections. Each one is available in a choice of fabrics and colours, and each has a fully upholstered back, so it can stand against a wall or out in the middle of an open-plan room.

Kiki Electric Corner Sofa Bed with Storage

The Kiki Electric Corner Sofa Bed collection has a distinctive rounded design with soft upholstered modules. It measures 258 x 208 cm, with an overall height of 87 cm and a seat height of 45 cm. The electric seat extension increases the seating depth to 84 cm, so you can sink back and stretch out.

The Kiki also has adjustable headrests and a built-in storage compartment of about 80 x 77 x 18 cm, which is handy for throws, cushions and spare bedding. If you want a sofa that looks like a statement piece and keeps clutter out of sight, it is a strong option.

Titi Electronic Corner Sofa Bed

The Titi Electronic Corner Sofa Bed collection is the largest of the three, at 288 x 200 cm with an overall height of 105 cm. Its electric mechanism extends the seat by about 28 cm, and the sofa offers a sleeping surface of around 85 x 323 cm.

With adjustable headrests, a 47 cm seat height and low 3 cm legs, the Titi is designed for family lounges where several people want to relax at once. If your living room is generous and you want the biggest lounging area, this is the one to look at first.

Castleford Electronic Corner Sofa Bed

The Castleford Electronic Corner Sofa Bed collection measures 283 x 165 cm, with an overall height of 98 cm and a slightly higher 50 cm seat. When the electric seat extension is used, it gives a sleeping surface of about 80 x 208 cm, which is useful for an occasional guest.

The Castleford has textured upholstery and decorative stitching. The seat uses HR and T2315 foam and the backrest uses T2540 and T2315 foam. At 165 cm deep, it takes up less floor space front to back than the Kiki or the Titi, which can make a difference in a narrower room.

Is an electric corner sofa bed worth it?

It depends on how you use your living room. An electric model tends to make the most sense if:

  • You like to lounge: if you often watch films or read with your feet up, a seat that extends at the touch of a button turns the sofa into a day bed in seconds.
  • Opening a manual sofa bed is a struggle: an electric mechanism takes the pulling and lifting out of the job.
  • Several people share the sofa: a deeper, wider seat gives everyone more room to get comfortable.
  • You want one sofa to do several jobs: sitting, lounging and occasional sleeping, without moving furniture around.

A standard corner sofa bed may suit you better if the sofa will mainly be used for upright seating, or if you want the widest choice of sizes and styles. Our full range of corner sofa beds includes many manual models with storage, and our guide on how to compare sofa bed mechanisms explains the main types.

What to check before you buy

Room size and the extended footprint

Measure the space with the seat extended, not just the closed size. A seat that slides forward needs clear floor in front of it, so check that a coffee table or rug will not get in the way. Marking the extended outline on the floor with masking tape is a quick way to see how much room you will have left to walk around.

Corner direction

Each collection comes in different corner configurations, so check the product title, the selected option and the product images before you order. Our guide to left hand vs right hand corner sofas explains how to work out which one you need.

Where the sofa will sit

Think about where the sofa will go in relation to doors, radiators and your nearest plug socket, and check the product page for how the electric mechanism is set up. Because all three of our electric collections have a fully upholstered back, you have more freedom to float the sofa in the room rather than pushing it against a wall.

Access on delivery day

Large corner sofas need a clear route from the front door to the room. Measure doorways, hallways and any tight turns on the stairs. Our guide on how to measure sofa access walks you through what to check.

Sleeping needs

If you plan to use the sofa for guests, compare the sleeping surfaces. The Titi offers the largest stated sleeping area of the three, while the Castleford gives a single-width space suited to occasional use. Delivery, assembly and warranty

All three electric collections include free delivery and professional assembly in the room of your choice, and each comes with a 12 month warranty. At the time of writing, most of these sofas show as pre-order from 2 to 5 weeks. Delivery times can change, so always check the delivery information on the product page before you order, especially if you need the sofa by a certain date.

The bottom line

An electric corner sofa bed is worth considering if you want a sofa that adapts to the way you relax, with a deeper seat at the touch of a button and, on some models, a place for guests to sleep. Choose the Kiki for rounded styling and built-in storage, the Titi for the biggest lounging and sleeping space, or the Castleford for a slimmer depth with a supportive foam seat.
